52nd Annual Mountain Blackface Sheep Show, Leenane, 10th September 2023

This tradition has persisted for more than 50 years. Farmers travel from the Connemara landscapes to present their top ewes and rams. The sheep is without a doubt the centre of the competition, where two judges may deliberate for a long time before selecting a winner.

The majority of these people are shepherds, who frequently have modest personalities and feel a little shy in public. The children’s dog show, where fierce competition takes place for the coveted honour of “best behaved dog of the show,” is for many kids the highlight of the fair.

The Sheep Show will take place in September, and it will be a warm welcome for the committed farmers who support it year after year. Their enthusiastic engagement extends to far-off places like Achill and South Connemara.
