DESCRIPTION:54nd Annual Mountain Blackface Sheep Show\, Leenane\,  September 2025 (Date TBC) \nThis tradition has persisted for more than 50 years. Farmers travel from the Connemara landscapes to present their top ewes and rams. The sheep is without a doubt the centre of the competition\, where two judges may deliberate for a long time before selecting a winner. \nThe majority of these people are shepherds\, who frequently have modest personalities and feel a little shy in public. The children’s dog show\, where fierce competition takes place for the coveted honour of “best behaved dog of the show\,” is for many kids the highlight of the fair. \nThe Sheep Show will take place in September\, and it will be a warm welcome for the committed farmers who support it year after year. Their enthusiastic engagement extends to far-off places like Achill and South Connemara.

Clifden Arts Festival opens on with a special segment for secondary school students. \nThe ‘Community Arts Week’ began life as a week-long celebration of the arts for the children of Clifden Community School – helping to develop artistic and social skills\, and provide an outlet for self-expression and development. SUMMARY:Traditional Hooker Regatta\, (Roundstone) - Cloch na Rón 2026
DESCRIPTION:Traditional Sailing Boat Festival displaying unique Irish boats such as currachs and Galway Hookers including the Bád Mór\, Gleoiteog\, Leathbhád and Púcán classes of boats. Traditionally used along the coast of Connemara \nRaces\nHookers are now used as a leisure craft: the skills of boat builders and crews can be appreciated during the Summer boat races. In the races\, the sailing course is set with bulls and the boats have to go out to them and round them a few rounds. Before the start of the race\, three different whistles are allowed so that the conductors are ready. When different types of boats take part in the same race\, the slowest boats start after the second whistle. The time interval between the second and third whistles indicates the handicap in that particular race. While waiting for the third whistle\, the sailors keep the boats afloat so that they can better measure the course and weather. \nCloch na Rón (Roundstone)

The festival aims to create a multidisciplinary exploration of the Nobel Laureate’s legacy\, fostering a deeper understanding of his contributions to literature\, Irish cultural identity\, and his modern relevance. \nThis festival embodies the University of Notre Dame’s commitment to the arts\, as outlined in the Arts Initiative\, through exploring Irish literary work at the intersection of artistic expression\, cultural heritage\, and scholarly inquiry within our University’s focus areas of Arts in Action and Sense and Transcendence. \n \nYeats is often presented as a poet of vision\, myth\, and national destiny. Yet across his poems\, plays\, letters\, and public performances\, a different Yeats repeatedly comes into view: sharp\, comic\, and self-consciously theatrical. Threshold 2026 turns to that distinctive “smile”—wry\, guarded\, and at times acerbic—to ask how satire and irony enabled Yeats to think\, argue\, and perform authority in public. \nFrom his early send-ups of literary fashion to his later\, unsparing deflations of politics\, piety\, and even the self\, Yeats’s humour is not an ornament but a critical practice. It is a way of testing beliefs\, exposing cant\, and staging the complexities of cultural leadership. The festival invites audiences to listen for Yeats’s comic timing and tonal shifts\, and to consider what satire discloses when a writer becomes a public figure. \nYeats lived at the intersection of art and authority\, private conviction and public speech. Wit and satire became his tools for navigating those contradictions and for questioning the crowds that demanded certainty.
