Enjoying a walk in BallynahinchThe rivers, lakes, woodlands and sheer natural beauty of the Ballynahinch estate make it one of Ireland’s most desirable destinations. Ballynahinch Castle was built in the late 17th century for the Martyn family estate and is now a high-end hotel set on 450 acres, with an international reputation for superb salmon fly fishing. It also offers a true fine dining experience with spectacular views of the river in the Owenmore Restaurant where local and seasonal specialities such as woodcock, duck, fresh fish and wild mushrooms can be savoured.

Situated between Recess and Roundstone, Ballynahinch was a railway station on the long abandoned Galway to Clifden Railway line and some of the old track sections may be accessed for walking. The history of the area as a landed estate is still apparent in its well-tended grounds, woodland and waterways. Ballynahinch Castle also has a number of looped and signposted walks that are open year round.
